No More Room in Hell 2 — Controller Support & Known Issues

Yes — No More Room in Hell 2 has full controller support on console and PC, including Xbox, PlayStation 5 DualSense, and generic XInput pads. But the PC 1.0 launch shipped with real controller bugs that Torn Banner Studios has acknowledged and is actively fixing. This page tells you what works today, what was fixed in 1.0.4.0, and what the September update is bringing.

Does NMRIH2 Support Controllers?

Yes, natively. Console versions (Xbox, PS5) have solid built-in controller support — that's the intended way to play on a couch. On PC the game supports controllers too, but the 1.0 build had input problems (detailed below) that the studio is patching through September.

The short version: console controller experience is fine; PC controller experience in 1.0 had known issues now being fixed.

What Controllers Work

The game recognizes a wide range of pads:

  • XInput controllers — Xbox Series / Xbox One pads, with Xbox button prompts and impulse-trigger support.
  • PlayStation controllers — DualSense (PS5) with button prompts, motion sensors, light bar, adaptive triggers and DualSense haptic feedback; DualShock also supported.
  • DirectInput controllers and Nintendo-style pads with their respective button prompts.
  • Steam tags confirm: "Full controller support", "DualShock Controller Support", "DualSense Controller Support".

Underlying features: controller remapping, sensitivity adjustment, Y-axis inversion, hotplugging, and simultaneous controller + keyboard/mouse input (you can swap between them).

Known Controller Issues on PC (1.0)

Multiple reviewers and the Steam community flagged the same pattern on PC in 1.0. CGMagazine tested four pads (8BitDo, Steam Controller, Xbox, PS5 DualSense) and reported all of them misbehaving at times:

  • Aiming snaps back to mouse input even with a controller.
  • Menu navigation randomly stops registering input, or flips between mouse and gamepad.
  • Inventory management is a nightmare — menu selection jumps between controller cursor and mouse.
  • In worst cases players got locked out of interactions and had to drop the controller to progress.
  • Steam Deck players were especially affected — the game is rated Playable, not Verified, because some functions need the touchscreen or virtual keyboard under the default controller config.

Torn Banner Studios acknowledged the gap publicly and said controller tuning was coming. This is also an accessibility issue: players who can't use a mouse/keyboard for long sessions rely on a working pad.

Controller Fixes Shipped So Far (1.0.4.0)

Hotfix 1.0.4.0 (late August 2026) already addressed several controller pain points:

  • Max controller sensitivity raised from 2 → 6, giving much finer aim control.
  • Controller players can now mute, block and report from the scoreboard.
  • Fixed a Weekly Assignment notification that stopped controller input.
  • Improved UI focus handling when purchasing patterns/logos.

Note what 1.0.4.0 did not touch: the deadzone behavior and the broader UI menu navigation rework are still scheduled for the September update (see next section).

September Update & What's Next

The official developer blog (Beyond Armageddon, Aug 20, 2026) stated it directly:

"Our September update will focus its refinement efforts on controller support, with both deadzone improvements as well as updating and improving UI menu navigation."

⚠️ Status as of 2026-09-02: the September controller improvements (deadzone + UI navigation) have not yet shipped. This page reflects the 1.0.4.0 state. Once the September update is live, re-check this page — deadzone and menu-nav fixes should land then.

Tips if Your Controller Misbehaves

If you hit the PC 1.0 controller bugs before the September patch:

  • Fall back to keyboard + mouse for interactions. Aiming and menu locks are the worst offenders; using KB/M to complete a lockpick or menu step, then resuming the pad, keeps you moving.
  • On Steam Deck, keep the touchscreen / virtual keyboard handy for the functions the default config can't reach.
  • Raise your sensitivity (now up to 6 after 1.0.4.0) if aiming feels too coarse.
  • Wait for the September update if menu navigation is a dealbreaker — that's the targeted fix.

Controller acting up? Most PC 1.0 issues are input-handling bugs, not hardware. Check Troubleshooting for crash/anti-cheat fixes, and System Requirements for specs and Steam Deck notes.
