No More Room in Hell 2 — Mods & Mod Support
No More Room in Hell 2's modding scene is limited compared to its 2011 Source-mod predecessor. The game has no official Steam Workshop support, and its anti-cheat and file integrity systems restrict what mods can do. Here's what's possible in 1.0.
Is There Official Mod Support?
No. Version 1.0 ships without Steam Workshop, and the game's core directories are locked down to protect 8-player co-op synchronization and proximity voice chat. Traditional mod managers like Vortex or Mod Organizer 2 don't work out of the box.
The core Unreal Engine .pak files are protected by a strict integrity check on launch — altering them will make the game refuse to connect to the master servers. Modding in NMRIH2 is therefore more limited than games with official mod APIs.
How to Install Mods Safely
For visual enhancements, the ~mods folder method is the safest route (standard for Unreal Engine games):
- Navigate to your install directory:
Steam Library → right-click NMRIH2 → Manage → Browse local files. - Go to
Content/Paks. - Create a new folder named exactly
~mods(including the tilde). - Place custom .pak files inside — the engine loads them last, safely overriding original assets.
Do not unpack, hex-edit or replace the core .pak files — the integrity check will block you from servers.
ReShade & Visual Presets
The most practical modding path is post-processing via ReShade. Drop the dxgi.dll and your chosen .ini presets into the Win64 binary folder where the game executable lives. This lets you adjust the game's dark, fog-heavy look without touching protected game files.
Mod Risks & Easy Anti-Cheat
The game uses Easy Anti-Cheat (kernel-level). Gameplay-affecting modifications — infinite ammo, stamina hacks, health adjustments, permadeath bypasses — require memory editors injected while the game is running, which carries a real ban risk with EAC active.
If you value your account and Responder progression, treat gameplay mods as high-risk. Visual mods like ReShade are generally safe because they only affect rendering.
VR Mod Status
There is no official or established community VR support for No More Room in Hell 2 as of 1.0. A "VR mod" is often searched for but no working public solution exists yet — check Nexus Mods and community Discord for updates.
